about
'Guildford' reflects on living in the suburb Guildford in Perth WA. Guildford has the lowest flight path in Perth, and so the planes fly really low to the ground and when you visit Guildford you notice the planes. However, if you live in Guildford, you are use to the planes and probably don't notice them at all. My Debut Single 'Guildford' uses this idea as a metaphor for how we often miss the obvious things in our lives.
lyrics
GUILDFORD
Verse 1
Sittin’ under the blue sky.
Watchin’ the clouds roll on by.
The sun is beatin’ down on my dry skin.
Chorus
My friend just turns and looks at me,
said ‘how’d you do this regularly,
I don’t think that I could survive.’
Verse 2
Glazed blue eyes incognisant,
as if this question made no sense,
I scratch my brow a say ‘what do you mean?’
Chorus
He said: ‘Don’t you hear the planes go by,
or see them pass through opal skies,
it won’t be long until they come again.’
Verse 3
Wake barefoot and go outside
my toes they meet the dew of night,
the birds they sing at morning light to me.
Chorus
But don’t you hear the planes go by,
or see them pass through opal skies,
it won’t be long until they come again.
Don’t you hear the planes go by,
or see them pass through opal skies,
it won’t be long until they come again.
Bridge
6000 in a day,
I say it won’t be me,
but I can’t be so sure!
Chorus
Verse 4
Walk bare feet through midland gate,
the people smile I hesitate,
‘how are you’, I hear them say,
see empty cans and children’s faces.
